Somerset Wedding Murder Mystery on the Grand Pier!

murder-on the pierFriday the 13th (March) saw a Somerset wedding murder mystery take place on the counties most famous seaside landmark, The Grand Pier in Weston super Mare. It hosted it’s second sold out murder mystery evening.

The evening of murder, mystery and mayhem was presented by Somerset based company Murder by Design who this year celebrate 35 years in the murder business!

Guests were invited to dress up and attend the society wedding of the year, that of the
only daughter of Sir Joseph and Lady Helen Ramsbottom, the Rt honourable Daphne Ramsbottom

Daphne is to wed the up and coming British portrait artiste Standon Drew who she met in Paris after her grand tour of Europe.

Although the day started well, by the time guests were served desserts at the wedding breakfast no less then three VIP guests had got their “just desserts” and met horrible deaths !

Fortunately P.C Bailey from Exeter was on hand to investigate and before the wedding evening came to a close was able to apprehend the murderer and ensure the guests safety, that is at least until the next murder mystery to be staged on the Grand Pier, ”The School Reunion” on Friday 18th September 2015.

Bristol-Band-VenuesLive Music in the buzzing city of Bristol

1st Call Entertainment have been supplying entertainment in Bristol for over 10 years. We get to entertain in some of the fabulous venues that our home city has to offer. We thoought we would share some of the venues and bands that we have visited in the past few months. Maybe give you some ideas, if you are planning an event in the city.

A view that is difficult to steel your eyes from.

avon-gorge-4x3 One of the most dramatic venues in the City of Bristol is the Avon Gorge Hotel in Clifton.

This historic hotel offers unparalleled views of Brunel’s Grade One listed Clifton Suspension Bridge, said to be one of the worlds greatest bridges.

Boasting a fantastic panorama, the hotel is also in a very central position for both business and person events alike, with Bristol CSteel-band-4x3ity Centre within walking distance.

Back in the summer we had our Caribbean Steel Band playing for Ernst & Young’s Summer Ball. The guests were entertained in authentic Caribbean style, adding that perfect atmosphere to the summer night.

The Caribbean Band really added the summer atmosphere.

A venue that doesn’t clown around.

circomedia-portland If you want a venue with a difference, as Sophie did for her 40th Birthday Party. Circomedia in Portland Place is certainly different.

Winning the Hudson Heritage Award for its adaptive reuse of space, we create tailored events in our unique central Bristol home at Grade 1 listed, St Paul’s Church in Portland Square from conferences to weddings, birthday parties to award ceremonies. Hirers can choose either to Party-Band-4x3run events themselves (‘dry hire’) or to put all of the planning and preparations into the hands of Circomedia’s highly- experienced in-house event management team.

Our Perfect Party Band were on hand to entertain Sophie’s guests as they danced the night away in this fantastic venue. There was not a clown in sight, however.

Well not at that point anyway.

A right royal venue.

Marriott-royal-4x3If it is elegance you require, there is no finer venue in our opinion, than the Marriott Royal in the centre of Bristol.

With a fabulous location next to Bristol Cathedral and the historic waterfront, the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel offers ideal accommodations for enjoying England’s southwestern charm. From the moment you arrive, the Victorian-style hotel captivates you with polished marble, warm mahogany and gleaming brass. Spaciousstringquartet rooms offer comfortable furnishings, 24-hour room service, and large work areas with high-speed Internet. For an event, choose the ballroom for 260 guests or a smaller meeting room for intimate gatherings. Enjoy an afternoon tea or cocktail at the Club Bar after your stroll from Bristol’s historic sites. For dinner, the newly refurbished Walters Restaurant, offering locally sourced regional flavours from the South West.

We added a touch of class to an event with our Classical/Jazz trio.

Road to everywhere

aztec-hotel-4x3Whether it’s a one night stopover en-route to Cornwall or a whole weekend to explore all that Bristol, Bath and Cardiff has to offer.

Based close to the M4/M5 interchange. Access to South Wales and the South West couldn’t be easier, making this venue ideal if you have guests coming to an event from all over.

Bride Bubbles about not too cheesy wedding band in Cheddar, Somerset

Wedding band-in-CheddarHere is a lovely testimonial form one of our clients from Cheddar, Somerset

Hi Julian and Phil

We can’t begin to tell you just how brilliant your wedding band are! We hired them for our outdoor wedding party which had over 100 guests ranging from small children to great-grannies and the band got everyone dancing. In advance of the event, lead singer Phil took the time to discuss the play list and the band went out of their way to put together two sets which included all of our favourite music, even learning new tracks so that the evening meant even more to us. The band are friendly, punctual, professional, they fit right in to our event – it was like having friends playing for us, which made our party really special. We would definitely recommend the Wonderful Wedding band and are hoping for an excuse in the near future so we can book them again.

Murder Mystery Dinner on the Pier – Sell Out!!

Grand-Pier-murder-mystery

The Grand Pier in the bay of Weston-super-Mare was transported to the 1930’s last friday. Everything was ship-shape and Bristol fashion in this nautically themed Murder Mystery Dinner. On the menu were a few Red Herrings and some got their just desserts at this sell-out event.

The bumbling PC Bailey was on hand to keep the mayhem in check (well try to, anyway), whilst the rest of the characters did their best to stay alive.

The dinner guests, who joined in with the 1930’s theme with fabulous dresses and fine tuxedos, were joined at their tables by the characters.

From the beginning it was clear that, in the words of Cole Porter – Anything Goes. Hilarity and confusion followed until the Policeman helped the guests to the final denouement.

murder-mystery-on-the-pierThanks to the sell-out success of this event, the Grand Pier have added two Murder Mystery dates to next year’s calendar.

13th March 2015 & 18th September 2015.
